NT Wright on the Kingdom in Paul

30 Jul

This one is a gift for my hyper-dispensationalist friends. Who will likely disagree, yet I find what Wright has to say here convincing at many points.

It would be also good for my emergent friends, who if they listen, will realize that he is not saying what they have said he is….(or what they are saying).

Viva La Revolucion

6 Jul

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?

Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free!

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

If you doubt the need for a Revolution I direct you to the link in the post below… I will not be a beholden again to a god of my own making who enslaves and never saves. The Hippy-mergents may have forgotten, but if they would like to see their future they need look no further that the decline and death of the mainline congregations… Humans making themselves god and making God nothing will only lead to slavery and death, of their souls, and of their “churches”, people eventually catch on to the idea that if god is a wimpy loser who is not in control then neither is he worthy of worship. Those who forget history are destined to repeat it. This “new” way of doing church wants us to believe that their God is an uncovering of the ancient God of history..when really it is just a recovery of the liberalism of the first decade of the 1900’s…btw hippy-mergents: would that be modern or post-modern…anyhoo.. I love Jesus, he is life…I will not go back!

Today’s Heretic West Michigan Style

Read this… if you like the Bible, Orthodoxy or plain old non-craziness it will make you retch. Apparently God is growing up and just in time…cause apparently all through out history he was not planning, orchestrating and loving us with each action pointing to the Cross… Jesus was not the point of history before time…he was an after thought for a god who was messing up and needed a second chance… So Jesus listened to some Beatles records and became a hippy, rejected his mean old dad’s violence and became a good buddy. Now that god knows that violence does not work it’s all good… except that apparently as near I can tell god is so dumb he is going to forget again in the future:

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. Revelation 19:11-16

Here is a hint my hippy-mergent friends: it is not his blood on the robe… think about it for a while. I will be honest: your god (note the little g) sucks. He is not the god of history, the bible or anything more than a suped up version of John Lennon. Your god can’t save you..is stupid..is a wimp… is no comfort.. has no glory and even if he did exist would not have the power or majesty to save us.

Thank you Sovereign, Powerful, Loving Jesus for not being their god. My you call them, so that they might worship you and be changed instead of worshiping themselves and changing you.

I Love WordPress Search Engine Terms…

7 Feb

WordPress is cool because it tells me how people found my site…I always think they are funny..I will now respond to some of the search terms:

Term: is James Dobson crazy? Answer: Yes.

Term: Drake Emergent… Reply: Slander! I can’t be Emergent, I still seem to believe stuff, and I don’t feel led to apologize to every one I have hurt by my awful belief imperialism. Also I am not embarrassed by the Apostle Paul and the rest of the Epistles.

Term: tellatuby… Reply: Is my two year old using the computer now?

Just sayin’

A Comment from the Out of Ur Blog

Mike Says:

As a member of the Bahai Faith I like to frequent a certain emerging church in Grandville MI. I appreciate how they teach a “first century Jesus” and not the one invented by Constantine (then followed up by the likes of Augustine, Luther, etc).
(please forgive me if this sounds prideful)..It seems that traditional Christians are finally discovering what we followers of Baha’u’llah have been taught for centuries. What the great teacher Jesus had to say was firstly for his generation, however some of what he taught is still applicable for us today. He was a great man. Thank you for keeping an open mind.

Be Subversive

28 Dec

I am temporarily abandoning my pursuit of the writing project below. Not because I do not feel it is worthy, as I certainly do, but because I feel as though there are things that are more worthy. I have decided to put my energy into leading and loving a truly missional church. While the other would have been fun and in some sense constructive I am not sure it would be more constructive then spending the bulk of my time trying to introduce post-Christians to the one thing they really need: Jesus. I am just feeling a real call right now to living out a radical Christology. I am excited and called greatly to the concept that Christianity rightly understood and lived looks little like the model that good ole’ Constantine has foisted upon us. I am tired of hearing people argue for the mainstream nature of Christianity. Christianity that is in any sense mainstream has lost it’s true power and center. We follow a King who after all challenged people to deny themselves and take up their cross, he them took up a cross himself and for us died there, he also you might remember rose from the dead. None of these things fit well into mainstream American life. I do not want to be mainstream, I want to be subversive. The truth is that Jesus is incompatible with so much of our American lives, not only that he is a threat to them. Allegiance to anything apart from Christ must be questioned. In this sense Jesus and his kingdom are a threat to the rule and the reign of our day (they understood this once upon a time and killed him for it). He is also a threat to our naturalism, subjectivism and consumerism (and a host of other ism’s). All of these must be taken down. I don’t want a mainstream faith I want a subversive one! The joy of it all is that this subversive faith has been at the center of missional movements for all of Christian history, see the apostolic church (the real one with Peter and Paul, not the oneness petecostal posse) or the Chinese Church for instance. They live out a subversive, faith and people meet Jesus, really that is all I want to be about.

On that note I recommend this book “The Forgotten Ways

Radically yours,
